2017-2018 Project
Our problem is stormwater runoff. It affects the human water cycle because it pollutes bodies of water and fish we eat. If catch basins get clogged the water can flood neighborhoods and city streets. The reason this is a problem is because of people not respecting the environment.
Our solution is informing people about this problem on local TV, local radio, in an app, and on online. Our app is important because it informs kids about the problem in a way that is fun. Our ads, local TV, and local radio are important because it informs adults and some kids.

Our problem is that zebra mussels are spreading. We decided on this problem because zebra mussels are local to us and we know that it's a big problem. It affects people and animals which is our theme for this year's FLL.
Zebra mussels attach to hard surfaces underwater. Zebra mussels have invaded 244 Minnesota bodies of water.
Some problems that zebra mussels cause are:

Some problems that zebra mussels cause are:
- Zebra mussel shells are as sharp as razor blades.
- They eat the green algae which allows poisonous blue-green algae to grow. The blue-green algae can also block sunlight from plants so they die.
- They can eat the green algae so fish won't have algae to eat.
- They can clog drainage pipes which can dump into waterways.
- They are aquatic hitchhikers. They cling to boats and trailers using the glue from their Byssus threads. They also live in live wells.
